Page 3 of 3 7. Learn to appreciate the beat and the rhythm of the spinning and try to relate it to music. To me, poi should be considered a dance form, without music it becomes a 2D representation of a 3D sculpture… empty and without depth.
8. As you get better in your performance, keep a look out for music that would sooth your mood you’re your spinning style. Most butterfly moves or derivations of the butterfly move follow a very simple beat that can be mixed with most base beat music. Weaves and their derivations are harder to match and would go well with faster pace music, showing off their smooth flow of spinning.
9. As you get better at spinning the various moves, practice “between” moves, where you switch from one move to another. There is no one repository that teaches you the “between” moves and besides, every person comes up with their own unique “between” moves. The best suggestion I have is to watch videos of various people and their performances (available in various arenas) for tips and inspiration or to discuss with other enthusiasts on methods.
