Some tips for poi spinners. |

Page 2 of 3 4. When training with chains on weight, try to get rid of tie-ups or knots between the chains without touching the weight. This will prepare you when you actually decide to move to fire poi. GOOD GRIP 5. The grip you use becomes very important as you practice poi more often. Normally for beginners, making loops off their strings of the poi suffice. Just ensure the knots stay or there will be an increase of reports of UFO sightings around your area. As you move on to performances with chain, grips should be considered for their durability and prevention of injury to the fingers in the form of rope burns.
6. While practicing the moves, it doesn’t hurt to figure out your own posture and body movements in synchrony with the poi movement. While I agree that most poi performances are done in darker lighting, the really good ones can actually make the whole performance superfluous and be one in body and spin. (Sounds very “Zen”, eh. ;-) )
