Page 2 of 4 Physical Poi is a perfect example of centripetal force. Any motion in a curved path represents accelerated motion, and requires a 'force' directed towards the centre of the curvature path. Technically, the centripetal force is proportional to the square of velocity, implying that four times as much effort will have to be used in order to spin your Poi twice as fast, making Poi a very rewarding aerobic activity and an excellent work-out. Just try spinning a variety of moves for just 10 minutes, and you’ll understand what I mean. Initially, you’ll feel the gentle state of warmth building up in your muscles. The circulation of your blood starts to quicken as you spin with more vigour and at the end of the 10 minutes, you’ll feel more energetic & refreshed than ever before. The spinners I know would definitely put their reputation on aerobic poi; ladies says it tones up the arms and removes those ghastly ‘batwings’, guys say it increases their stamina. Just try it & you’ll be amazed, how low impact but highly aerobic & alluring this art can be.
